About the box: International developments, local consequences: presentation by Michiel Nijdam for Havencongres Rotterdam, April 17th, 2012
Michiel Nijdam presented some of the backgrounds behind growth in international trade and container volumes. In his presentation he clearly pointed out some good news: the Netherlands became more important for the EU, based on import volumes. But also some bad news: we don't know what to expect in the near future. Solutions have to be found in flexibility, both in contracts and infrastructure development and in co-operation between stevedores, port-authorities and shipping lines.
