New member research community
On August 22, 2011 <link erim research centres smart_port people research_community _blank>Martijn van der Horst joined the research community of Erasmus Smart Port Rotterdam as a researcher in Port Economics. Martijn has a background in Logistics and Transport Management (BEng, 2000) and Economics (MSc, 2003). In the last two years, he taught logistics and transport economics at ‘Hogeschool Rotterdam’ - a school for higher professional education. Aside from teaching, he was also involved in the development of a new bachelor education programme on sustainable inland shipping and he was researcher and programme manager in the field of sustainable mobility of seaports.
Between 2005 and 2009, he joined the section Regional, Transport and Port Economics (RHV BV). Martijn will be active in market-based research and policy advice, education and scientific research. He will participate in a wide range of research projects related to the assessment and analysis of risk in global supply chains (CASSANDRA), a port sector study, port development studies and studies related to port-related container transport. His main academic interest lies in coordination issues in hinterland transport chains from an institutional economic perspective. He has published a number of papers on this subject and is working on a related PhD-thesis. He combines his research with teaching Port Economics (MSc), and Bachelor and Master thesis supervision.
