Accounting firm BDO and Rabobank entered into a partnership with the Erasmus Centre for Family Business (ECFB) in 2016, aiming to improve expertise relating to family businesses in the Netherlands and the development of this segment. This partnership is now being stepped up further through the establishment of a chair in family businesses. The chair will be held by Pursey Heugens, professor of organisation theory, development and change at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM).

The winner of the EMAC Distinguished Marketing Scholar Award 2020 Opens externalis Stefan Stremersch, Professor of Marketing at Erasmus School of Economics. He will officially be presented with the Award at the upcoming European Marketing Academy (EMAC) conference in Budapest, Hungary (27-29 May 2020), where he will give a presentation.

Dr Alexander Genevsky from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) has been awarded a prestigious EUR Fellowship. The grants are awarded to highly promising young researchers up to three years after completion of a PhD. The €135,000 grant for a two-year period will focus on leveraging neural data to improve forecasts of population-level behaviour.

On Friday, the 31st of January 2020, Prof. Michel van der Wel, Endowed Professor of Finance & Accounting in the Department of Econometrics presented his inaugural address entitled ‘Connecting Silos. On linking macroeconomics and finance, and the role of econometrics therein’.

In her dissertation 'Emotional Experience and Advertising Effectiveness: On the use of EEG in marketing’ Esther Eijlers extends existing knowledge by elucidating two proposed aims of neuromarketing, using EEG: offering additional insight into implicit processes (here, emotions) and contributing to predicting behavioral, market level, responses or ‘advertising effectiveness’.

In his dissertation ‘Crew Planning at Netherlands Railways: Improving Fairness, Attractiveness, and Efficiency’, Thomas Breugem studies the Railway transportation and mass transit which play a vital role in modern-day society.

Shadi Sharif Azadeh of Erasmus School of Economics, together with Professor Lóránt Tavasszy and Dr Yousef Maknoon (TU Delft), have been awarded the Dutch Research Council (NWO) Accelerator Fund for developing a new methodological approach to plan the operation of on-demand logistics systems.

A research project that aims to start an online community of 50,000 internet users to evaluate the principles of an ‘internet of trust’ in an interdisciplinary project that uses computer science, economy and legal knowledge has received a grant of €3.3 million. Of the total amount, €1.5 million comes from the Dutch Research Council (NWO). The funding will allow associate professor of finance Dr Dion Bongaerts from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) to be part of the Sovreignty4Europe project to design an internet-based system that records various forms of transactions in a reliable and law-compliant way. The project is financed by Holland High Tech Top Sector HTSM, NOW, and the Delft Blockchain Lab at TU Delft. It ties into to the Dutch Blockchain Research Agenda in the Faculty of Law at the University of Amsterdamas well as the Fintech research agenda at the Erasmus Centre for Data Analytics. Their proposal Sovereignty4Europe describes a system that uses a blockchain that allows anyone to assess their level of trust in a person or company.

ERIM researchers Ying Gan, Esad Smajlbegovic, Krzysztof Postek, Michel van der Wel and Thomas Peeters received awards from the Management Team of Erasmus School of Economics for their excellent performance during the annual awards ceremony on 17 December 2019.
