Researchers Romulo Alves and Dr Marta Szymanowska from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) received a best paper award during the 27th Finance Forum, hosted by Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, which took place recently.
On Friday, the 20th of September 2019, Prof. Marcel van Rinsum, Endowed Professor of Accounting & Incentives in the department of Accounting and Control presented his inaugural address entitled ‘Utilizing Incentives and Accountability: In Control in Control?’.
Henk de Vries, Endowed Professor of Standardisation Management at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) will deliver his inaugural address entitled Standardisation Management on Friday 4 October 2019. In his inaugural address, Professor De Vries will give an overview and update of research into standardisation at RSM, and the emphasis on management that he intends to add through his work. He will argue that many companies are insufficiently aware of the relevance of standardisation on business, and lack a clear policy at company level. Prof. De Vries will highlight strategic dilemmas presented by standardisation, and the managerial opportunities.
In his dissertation ‘Effective contracting of uncertain performance outcomes: Allocating responsibility for performance outcomes to align goals across supply chain actors’ Fabian Nullmeier examines how organizations can effectively contract and sell uncertain performance outcomes.
Professor Michaéla Schippers won a CLI Fellowship for her goal-setting scheme at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM). The grant is awarded to perform research in order to innovate education, which Prof. Schippers does by optimising student performance through interventions like goal-setting and study-choice meetings across Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR).
In her dissertation ‘Essays on Entrepreneurial Cognition, Institution Building and Industry Emergence’ Katrin Smolka investigates ways in which entrepreneurs deal with uncertainty, how institutions emerge and what stimulates innovation, especially in environments driven by technological change.
Marcel van Rinsum, Professor of Accounting and Incentives at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) will deliver his inaugural address entitled Utilizing Incentives and Accountability: In Control in Control? on Friday 20 September 2019. During his lecture, Professor Van Rinsum will focus on what he believes to be a critical factor in accounting: subjectivity. He will argue that a good performance measurement system requires a balance between objectivity and subjectivity, and similarly, it also needs the right mix between evaluations based on outcomes and those based on accountability for processes.
Former PhD candidate Dr Caroline Witte has won the 2019 Dissertation Award of the International Management Division of the Academy of Management. The prize was bestowed upon her at the Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management in Boston, Massachusetts, in August 2019.
Dr Stefano Tasselli, Associate Professor at Rotterdam School of Management, received the Best Global Paper Award in the Health Care Management (HCM) division at the Academy of Management Conference in Boston in August 2019.
The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) has awarded two of its Veni grants, worth up to € 250,000, to two researchers at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM). Dr Thomas Lambert, an assistant professor of finance, and Dr Pieter van den Berg, an assistant professor of transportation and logistics have received the annual grants, which are awarded to highly promising young researchers up to three years after completion of a PhD. The grants provide an opportunity to continue to research for another three years.
