In his dissertation ‘Agent-based Inter-organizational Systems in Advanced Logistics Operations’ ERIM’s Meditya Wasesa offers new insights on the role of inter-organizational systems in mitigating coordination equivocality and uncertainties; the interplay among the ABIOS applications, required structural adjustments, and the potential of business performance improvement opportunities; and the development of two ABIOS prototypes: an auction based coordination mechanism and a predictive analytics application based on big data.

As of 15 July, Professor Pursey Heugens will succeed Professor Marno Verbeek as Scientific Director of the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM), the joint research institute of Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) and Erasmus School of Economics (ESE). Pursey Heugens is Professor of Organisation Theory, Development, and Change at RSM; he will also replace Marno Verbeek as RSM’s Dean of Research at RSM. After six years as academic leader of ERIM, Marno Verbeek will concentrate on his role as finance professor at RSM after a short sabbatical at ESMT in Berlin.

On Friday, the 16th of June 2017, Michaéla Schippers Endowed Professor of Logistics and Operations Management presented her inaugural address entitled ‘IKIGAI: Reflection on Life Goals Optimizes Performance and Happiness’.

In his dissertation ‘Passengers, Crowding and Complexity’ ERIM’s Paul Bouman studies how microscopic data can be used in models that have the potential to improve utilization, while preventing excess crowding.

A paper co-authored by Professor Ale Smidts from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) and ERIM Fellow won the 2017 Jan-Benedict E.M. Steenkamp Award for Long-Term Impact. The paper explores if loyalty programmes really enhance behavioural loyalty. The European Marketing Academy (EMAC) and the International Journal of Research in Marketing (IJRM) announced the award at the EMAC Conference in Groningen in May 2017.

On Friday, the 2nd of June 2017, Vareska van de Vrande Associate Professor of Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship presented her inaugural address entitled ‘Collaborative Innovation: Creating opportunities in a changing world.

In her dissertation ‘Corporate Environmentalism in China’, ERIM’s Ruxi Wang reveals a comprehensive picture of how different external and internal forces jointly influence the corporate environmental strategies in the emerging economy of China.

Professor Schippers will explain how taking control of one’s life will optimize personal performance and happiness.

In her dissertation ‘Flexible Working Practices: How Employees Can Reap the Benefits for Engagement and Performance’, ERIM’s Christina Wessels uncovers that performance and well-being gains can be achieved through flexible working practices.
