ERIM PhD candidate Tatjana Schneidmüller from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) won an EURAM 2018 Best Paper Award in the Strategic Management Special Interest Group for her management research. Schneidmüller, whose paper explores incumbent response to discontinuous change, received the award at the annual conference of the European Academy of Management (EURAM), which took place in Reykjavik, Iceland, in June 2018.

The symposium takes place on 16 November 2018 and is organized by Flavius Frasincar, in conjunction with the PhD defense of Kim Schouten. It discusses some of the recent developments on Semantic Web and related language technologies and their application to sentiment mining. The invited speakers are Elena Simperl, Paul Buitelaar, and Mike Thelwall.

Dr Yashar Ghiassi-Farrokhfal from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) and Associate ERIM Member was awarded the audience choice runner-up at the ACM International Conference on Future Energy Systems (ACM e-Energy) in Karlsruhe, Germany in June 2018. The paper addresses a design issue in green energy systems; it investigates how people should optimally split the budget between solar PV panels and batteries for the highest energy availability that meets a target level of predictability. Dr Ghiassi-Farrokhfal also co-chaired a workshop at this conference, the 1st International Workshop on Energy Market Engineering.

Dr Sarah Draus from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) and Associate ERIM Member won this year’s FESE De la Vega Prize for her paper on the effects of multi-market trading on stock exchange fees. The assistant professor of finance received the award in Vienna in June 2018, at the annual convention of the Federation of European Securities Exchanges (FESE).

In his dissertation ‘Essays on the behavioral economics of social preferences and bounded rationality’, Job Harms presents a series of lab- and field-experiments about the drivers of social preferences, with a particular focus on bounded rationality, culture and beliefs.

In his dissertation ‘Data-driven Warehouse Management in Global Supply Chains’, Thai Young Kim focuses on how to solve warehouse challenges in global supply chain management (SCM) that is characterized by large volume uncertainty, great responsiveness needs and complex order-fulfilment collaboration with other functionalities.

On Wednesday, the 20th of June 2018, Ting Li, Endowed Professor of Digital Business at Rotterdam School of Management, delivered her inaugural address entitled 'Digital Traces: Personalisation and Privacy'.

ERIM PhD Candidate Derck Koolen from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) won the Best Paper Award at the International Association for Energy Economics Conference in Groningen, the Netherlands on 10-13 June 2018. The paper investigates strategic trading and the value of flexibility in electricity markets with increasing renewable supply.

Dr Emilio Marti, assistant professor in the Business-Society Management department at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) and ERIM Member, has won the best paper award of the German Academic Association for Business Research (Verband der Hochschullehrer für Betriebswirtschaft). Dr Marti received the award from Prof. Peter Walgenbach at the annual meeting of the association that took place in Magdeburg, Germany from 23-25 May 2018.

Ting Li, Endowed Professor of Digital Business at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) and ERIM Member will deliver her inaugural address Digital Traces: Personalisation and Privacy on Wednesday, 20 June 2018. She will argue that businesses often find themselves walking a thin line between delivering personalised services to consumers and being intrusive, which increases consumers’ privacy concerns.
