Financial Market Group Conference: Prompt Corrective Action & Cross-Border Supervisory Issues in Europe

Speakers

Abstract

This conference is the fourth and final in a series of events dedicated in the area of Regulation and Financial stability that are organised with the support of the Economic and Social Research Council. The series builds on the established FMG London Financial Regulation seminar, which has run since 1999. The ultimate purpose of these events is to clarify the principles on which financial regulation should be based, and to advance practical proposals for improving the organisation and conduct of such regulation. This conference will look at the challenges presented by the supervision of cross border banking activities in Europe with the aim of identifying the principles that should govern the division of responsibilities between home and host country authorities, in particular in the case of financial distress. Some of the questions to be addressed at the conference are:

  • Prompt corrective action and leverage ratio
  • Deposit insurance and financial stability
  • Dealing with distress in financial conglomerates
  • Cross-border resolution conflicts
