Publishing in The Journal of Management Studies
Abstract
In an increasingly competitive academic labour market, scholars are under immense pressure to publish in high-impact journals. Getting a paper accepted by a journal can be a long and difficult process and it is easy to feel that those who succeed are privy to some kind of secret knowledge, which most of us are not. While it is never possible to remove uncertainty from the publishing process, there is little mystery about the factors that increase the likely success of a manuscript. This seminar aims to demystify the publishing process and provide practical guidance to authors who are considering submitting manuscripts to the Journal of Management Studies. Bill Harley will discuss the characteristics of papers which make it to publication and those which do not. He will also discuss the respective roles of editors and reviewers and give advice on how to manage the process from submission to acceptance. The aim is to make the seminar as interactive as possible, with time for questions and discussion.
