The how, what and why of case research in China, with an example of the Chinese social enterprise Green Zhejiang
Abstract
In this seminar Dr. Mark Greeven will share his experience in doing qualitative case research in the institutional context of China. In particular he will introduce the how and what and highlight several interesting directions for future research in the field of innovation, entrepreneurship, international strategy and social enterprise in China. Second he will address what extra can we gain from doing qualitative case based research in China. Finally he will illustrate this presenting the case study of China’s pioneering social enterprise “Green Zhejiang”.
Bio of Dr. Mark Greeven
Dr. Mark Greeven, PhD of innovation management, Erasmus University Rotterdam, is Associate Professor at theSchoolofManagement,ZhejiangUniversity. He is the director for the MBA program Global Entrepreneurship Program, mentor at Chinaccelerator, West Lake Maker Space andZJUNationalSciencePark. He is a research fellow at theChina’s National Institute for Innovation Management,ZhejiangUniversityAcademyfor Global Zhejiang Entrepreneurs, China Centre for Innovation inChina-EuropeInternationalBusinessSchooland Center for Global R&D and Innovation. He organized and hosted the World Entrepreneurship Forum 2015. Before moving toChina, he was Assistant Professor and co-founder of MSc Chinese Economy and Business at theRotterdamSchoolof Management,ErasmusUniversity, TheNetherlands.
Dr. Greeven has focused on innovation & entrepreneurship, cross cultural management and global R&D in, to and fromChinafor more than 10 years. Findings of his research are published in international academic journals such as European Management Journal, Technology Analysis and Strategic Management, newspapers like The Financial Times. He also writes book chapters for publishers like Edward Elgar and Routledge Publisher. He has designed and delivered curricula and executive workshops for Fortune 500 MNCs like Bosch, Honeywell, Philips, DSM, Vanke and MBA/EMBA students of business schools. He follows and investigates Chinese innovative companies and writes teaching cases. He developed cases in collaboration with RSM CDC over the past years, such as the Alibaba Group case (2010) and a 3-case series on Internationalization strategy of Chinese private firms inEurope(2013).
