The Roadside Healthcare Facility Location Problem
Abstract
Providing African truck drivers with adequate access to healthcare is an effective way to reduce the burden and the spread of HIV and other infectious diseases. Therefore, the NGO North Star Alliance builds a network of healthcare facilities along the major African trucking routes. We propose and analyse a MIP model to select locations for new facilities and to decide for these facilities which health services to provide. The objectives are to maximize the patient volume at the facilities and to maximise the extent to which the truck drivers have continuous access to the needed health services.
