Understanding Proactive Behavior from Attachment Theory

Speaker

Abstract

In this presentation, we propose a conceptual model to explain how early attachment experiences can shape adult’s work proactivity. Conceptualizing proactivity as a form of exploration, we suggest that attachment experiences shape proactivity via the sense of security in attachment. We also propose that the two components of security in attachment (i.e., secure base and secure haven) shape self determination and emotion regulation, which in turn, help to sustain higher level of proactivity. We discuss implications of our model for the conceptualization, developmental mechanism and motivational mechanisms of proactivity. Emipical findings will also be reported.
