Exploratory Search and the Boundaries of the Firm: An Empirical Investigation

Speaker

Abstract

This paper develops and tests a theoretical framework that examines the impact of firm boundaries on the exploratory search behavior of firms. The paper finds empirical support for the arguments that firm boundaries influence search behavioral in systematic though not obvious ways. Given the importance of exploratory search for breakthrough innovations, this paper suggests a link between firm boundaries and breakthrough innovation.
