On Thursday 12th November, we will host a webinar of introduction to Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA).
This webinar will help participants who are completely new to NCA to get a first understanding of ‘What is NCA’?
To facilitate participants from different time zones, the webinar will be offered twice. Each session will last one hour followed by thirty minutes of (voluntary) discussion. This webinar will be free of charge and will be hosted by Jan Dul, the founder of the NCA method.

We are happy to announce that we will host a 2-hour asynchronous Professional Development Workshop (session #490) on Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA) as part of this year’s virtual AOM Annual Meeting.

The workshop will provide an introduction to NCA and presents recent applications of NCA. You can watch video clips explaining the methodology, read background materials (available until August 31), and use the chat function to ask questions.

Although the Sunbelt Paris 2020 has been (physically) cancelled, most of the Workshops have been rescheduled.

Stefan Breet will therefore give an online NCA workshop on the 24th June for the 40th annual SUNBELT Conference of the International Network for Social Network Analysis (INSNA).

The workshop will help participants to become the first users of NCA in their field, with hands-on instructions about how to build necessity theories, and how to analyze data for testing such theories using the NCA R software.

CALL FOR PAPERS – NCA as a complementary method
Nicole Franziska Richter and Sven Hauff, two ambassadors of the NCA development team, will guest edit a focused issue in Management International Review (in cooperation with Christian Ringle and Siggi Gudergan).

This focused issue encourages authors to submit articles in International Management that use PLS-SEM with complementary methods such as NCA.
The submission deadline is March 30, 2021.

A working paper was published in which NCA is applied to recent data from the 1918 influenza pandemic ('Spanish Flu') about the effects of social distancing policies on recovery of the economy after the pandemic.

Although physical meetings, seminars and workshops are for now postponed, it doesn't stop NCA from being spread.

The NCA development team is still actively involved in online presenting the NCA method to the research community. This is what Sven Hauff, our ambassador in Germany, will do tomorrow, 19th May, with an online seminar at the Magdeburg University.

Are you interested in Necessary Condition Analysis?
This is your chance!

In June NCA hosts its first online summer course together with the Erasmus Research Institute of Management in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

This 4-day hands-on course will consist of four 'lectures' on four consecutive days. A fifth 'lecture' for a selection of participants (writing a paper with online support) is voluntary (one week). From the 15th to 18th June, participants will gain an understanding of the logic of necessary conditions, and why these are important for social science and practice.

Given the large interest in the course, we consider having a next online course before next summer. We also noticed that we had a large number of applicants who had a very specific interest in NCA. One group was interested in the relationship between NCA and QCA, and another group in the use of NCA in practice. We are now considering having a special online course, workshop or event for these groups of people, in addition to the general course. Please let us know if that would also interest you.

NCA will be present on Tuesday, June 2 to offer a workshop on An Introduction to Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA) for Social Network Analysis at SUNBELT 2020.

The workshop will provide an introduction to Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA). NCA is a novel approach that can be used to test whether a condition (X) is necessary but not sufficient for an outcome (Y). It provides a new perspective on existing phenomena and is complementary to the regression-based modeling that we usually apply.

As the use of the NCA approach is increasing, Nicole Franziska Richter developed a serie of videos as a simple tool for a comprehensive introduction into the basics of necessary condition analysis (NCA).
This serie includes: An international business (IB) example, necessity versus sufficiency logic, the fundamentals of NCA and the introduction to an example dataset used.

NCA has been applied in many different fields. Today, we want to introduce you to Dr. Karwowski, a professor in Psychology. His NCA paper on intelligence and creativity is the most cited paper published in Intelligence.
