ECMC member attends ICMC 2024

Last week, ECMC was proudly represented at the 8th International Choice Modelling Conference (ICMC 2024) in Puerto Varas, Chile, by Nicholas Smeele. Nicholas delivered a podium presentation on his working paper, “Large language models meet discrete choice models: what can they learn about morality underlying the formation of choices?”. His research seeks to uncover the moral considerations that shape aversions to taboo trade-offs in choice behaviours by merging choice- and text data.

The ICMC 2024 program was rich with contributions from leading international scholars in the field of choice modelling. Notably, three keynote presentations stood out. On day one, Prof. Sergio Jara Díaz (Universidad de Chile – ISCI) discussed “The Microeconomics of Travel Choice”. On day two, Prof. Antonio Rangel (Caltech) introduced neuroeconomics in his keynote on “Attention and Simple Choice”. Finally, on the last day, Prof. Tulin Erdem (NYU) explored “Consumer Attention, Search and Decision-making in Hypercomplex Decision Environments”.
